advanced structural and pipework analysis

Member Design

The following modules are currently available for undertaking structural member design checks on the result cases of FS2000. The modules completely interface with FS2000 to provide automatic or interactive design checks. In interactive mode the section properties of elements can be changed, thus providing an interactive design tool which does not require re-analysis in the case of less stiffness dependent structures.

FS-AISC/API provides design checks in accordance with the following;

AISC " Specification for Structural Steel in Buildings",9 th Edition.
AISC " Specification for Structural Steel in Buildings",13 th Edition (ASD & LRFD).
API RP2A " Recommended Practice for Planning, Designing and Constructing Fixed Offshore Platforms (21th Edition 2005)
API RP2A LRFD "Recommended Practice for Planning, Designing and Constructing Fixed Offshore Platforms" (1 st Edition)

FS-AISC360 provides limit state design checks in accordance with:

The AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings AISC-16th Edition

FS-EC3 provides limit state design checks in accordance with:

DD ENV 1993-1-1:2005 Design of Steel Structures Part 1.1 General Rules and Rules for Buildings.

FS-19902 provides limit state design checks in accordance with:

ISO 19902 Petroleum and natural gas industries - Fixed steel offshore structures.

FS-BS5950 provides limit state design checks in accordance with:

BS 5950 "Use of Steelwork in Buildings" - 2000

Three Basic Modes of Operation

  • Summary Check - Summarises results by maximum Unity Ratio
  • Stress Check - Shows actual and allowable load components
  • Interactive Mode - Member Re-design

Selective Output

  • Graphical/Unity Ratio Plots - Selective plots - Individual & Multiple Results
  • Sorted Summary - By Label Range or Criticality Rating
  • Restricted Output - Limit Output to Defined Criticality Limit (UR threshold)
  • Actual/Allowable - Actual/Allowable for all component element loads

Output may be by element label, element grouping or by loading criticality.
Selective colour plots enable critical members to be easily identified or grouped for output processing.

Elements may be grouped to form members for design checks.

  • All Standard Rolled Sections - UB, UC, SHS, RHS, RSA, RST, HEA, IPE etc
  • Built-up Sections - Welded Sections (Open and Boxed)
  • Plate Girders - Open and Boxed
  • User Defined Section Libraries - Global or Model Dependent

The FS2000 Geometric Section Property Generator can be used to create user defined Section Libraries

Data Preparation

All data for the code check is automatically taken from the model as defaults. This default data can be modified (and saved) to suit the actual structural configuration. Results related data e.g. moment factors etc. if modified is saved by result case reference.

Effective Lengths and K Values - can be assigned to the model in the graphical/interactive environment.
