 Earthquake (Seismic) Loading

The following two modules are available for seismic load evaluation.

seismic1FS-Seismic generates loading due to earthquake motion in accordance with the UBC/IBC/ASCE/EC3 and other similar national codes using the equivalent static lateral-force procedure.

  • Load Case/Mass Case Conversion - Standard Load cases can be converted to Mass Definition Cases by using a mass conversion constant.
  • Multiple Mass Cases - Any number of mass definition cases may be used to create the generated load cases.
  • Directional Loading - The earthquake motion may be applied in any direction.
  • Lateral Force - Vertical Distribution - Applies the lateral force vertical distribution in accordance with NBC including the Concentrated Top force.
  • Fundamental Period Evaluation - Evaluates the fundamental period using the Raleigh-Ritz method. Simple alternative option to using FS-Frequency .
  • Standard Load/Result Cases - The load case created can be pre-processed and post-processed like any other load case since they are not RMS type cases. Can be combined with other cases for P-Delta analysis.

seismic2FS-Dynamic. The Seismic Response module evaluates earthquake loading using the normal mode Response Spectra Analysis (RSM) method.

  • Response Spectra Curves - NBC, Eurocode, API and user defined curves.
  • Multiple Mass Cases - Any number of mass definition cases may be used to create the frequency cases. Standard Load cases can be converted to Mass Definition Cases by using a mass conversion constant.
  • Directional Loading - The earthquake motion may be applied in any principal direction and simultaneously in the 6 degrees of freedom.
  • Rotational Motion - Rotational base motion in accordance with Eurocode 8.
  • Mass Participation - Mass participation evaluated for all included modes.
  • Various Modal Combination methods - SRSS, CQC etc.
  • Missing Mass - Pseudo mode to represent missing mass
  • Single Mode or Signed outpout based on selected mode options
  • Standard Result Cases - The load cases created can be post-processed like any other load case.
